Sometimes Christmas gifts fit under a tree and sometimes Christmas gifts are a little bigger and might impact your insurance. It is that time of year when we give gifts to those we love. Some gifts are small and some are big. Big can refer to both the size and value of that gift. It is exciting to see a car with a bow outside or a jewelry or gun box under the tree. However, these items need to be added to your insurance as soon as possible.
We know insurance is the last thing you want to think about during the holidays. Let me explain why for these gifts it is so important. It is the easiest to explain by sharing what could happen if you don’t get these items on your insurance.
Christmas Gifts and Your Insurance
First, I want to start off by saying that we hope none of these scenarios every happen to you and that if they do happen no one is injured or harmed in any way. However, we see things like this happen far to often to not share with you the importance of insuring those gifts!
New Car or Truck
You get a new shiny car or truck for Christmas. If you currently have insurance on another vehicle you probably have a grace period where the new vehicle is covered. However, every insurance company is different and this also varies from state to state. What if you decide to take your new vehicle out for a drive and get in an accident or there is a storm that comes through? Personally, I would want to know that I was covered. Contact your insurance agent immediately to get your new vehicle covered.
New ATV/UTV or other Toy
On those toys you would have zero coverage if you don’t add them to your policy. So that first joy ride could result in a totaled out new toy. Can you afford to buy that toy again? A quick call to your agent would have gotten you coverage on it so you could ride with peace of mind.
New Jewelry, Guns or other Valuables
Diamonds, guns and other valuables are great Christmas gifts and can also be among the easiest to forget to add to your insurance policy. There are typically limits to the amount of coverage for these items on your home policy. If they are valued above that limit then you will need to schedule them on your policy. You do not want to have something happen to that new valuable the day after Christmas only to realize that you don’t have adequate coverage.
If you received any of these items for Christmas this year and you are our customer please click here to add them to your policy. Otherwise please contact your agent today to get those new gifts added to your policy today!
We hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and safe New Year!
