How can I get cheaper auto insurance?
Bundle, auto and home, auto and renters. When you have multiple policies with a single insurance company, chances are you’re going to get some discounts that you wouldn’t otherwise get if those were separated. Now, that’s not always the case that that’s the best premium for you or the best coverage for you but it’s something certainly to look at to get cheaper auto insurance.
Talk about mileage a lot. So if you have a vehicle that sits in the garage, or you have a company vehicle that you drive mostly, it’s important to point out to your insurance company that you drive that car less, give them the mileage, or participate in something that’s called telematics. Telematics is where the insurance company actually tracks your driving, using a device put in your diagnostic or an app on your phone. It’ll track your driving over a certain period of time. You’ll get, in most cases, a discount up-front, as well as a possibility of saving upwards of 30, 40% on your auto insurance using the telematic system, and it’ll look at things like how hard you brake, how quick you accelerate, and what time of day you’re driving, and obviously the number of miles. So check that out if you’re looking for cheaper auto insurance.
It is always important to go over available discounts on your policy with your agent. A few possible discount are; you own your home, you have a college education, if you have young drivers their and they have good grades, your vehicle has safety devices from the manufacturer, etc.
4. Raise Your Deductible
Raising the deductible on your comprehensive and collision is a quick way that you can get cheaper auto insurance. The higher the deductible the less your premium. It is always good to look at all the options here to see what is the best use of your dollars. Sometime raising your deductible can save you a lot and in other cases it is minimal. Ask your agent to review these options with you.
5. Credit Scores
Credit impacts so much of our lives and our insurance is no different. If you can actually improve your credit, it can improve your auto insurance. Most carriers will look at a version of your credit history to tier you. And depending on your credit score, good being a better tier, bad being a worse tier, you can actually get higher or lower insurance rates. Anytime you can increase your credit score you can actually have an impact on your auto rates as well.
6. Independent Agents
Use an independent agent. An independent agent has multiple insurance companies and they will shop your rate for you. It’s very important independent agents have access to these multiple carriers. This saves you the time and the headache of having to go to a bunch of different insurance companies and agents. An independent agent can run it through multiple carriers, getting you the best bang for your buck.
