What is rental reimbursement on my auto insurance policy? It’s a question we frequently get asked. Rental reimbursement is a separate coverage added to your auto policy. It is an amount of coverage on each vehicle that will pay up to a certain daily amount and a total amount if your car is in a covered accident and you have to rent a vehicle. Caleb discusses rental reimbursement on your auto insurance policy in detail here.
When can I use Rental Reimbursement coverage on my auto insurance?
You will be able to use rental reimbursement if it is added to your policy when you have an accident. If you vehicle can be repaired the rental will be while that work is being done up to the limit. If your vehicle is a total loss then you can use a rental car until you find a new vehicle.
How much coverage do I need?
We recommend looking at either $40 or $50 a day as sufficient, depending on what type of vehicle you have. You could probably maybe get away with a little less. It’s a pretty inexpensive coverage to add to your policy just to have that peace of mind. You won’t have to worry about how to get to work, how to get the kids around town if your car is in an accident.
